    A thoroughly entertaining game throughout saw Lucs clinch a deserved bonus point against the league leaders, but they should have had more to show for their endeavours. Louis Silver‘s last minute penalty struck the uprights and the ever-alert Frank Kelly pounced to collect the loose ball for the home side to touch down with Silver adding the extras.

Despite their position in the league Lucs gave Fylde a serious test and they will consider themselves lucky to have won this as most of their points came from Lucs errors and not by their own design.

Seb Robinson, who was excellent all game, scored first for the home side, when he touched down from a well-executed up and over pass from Will Burton, Silver adding a penalty to give the home side an early 8-point lead whilst down a man with Guy Kirkby in the bin.

The numbers should have been levelled up when Oli Parkinson for Fylde was fortunate not to see a colour of any kind for throwing a punch soon afterwards. But Fylde took advantage of the numbers gain and a Scott Rawlings try for Fylde, quickly followed up by another from Greg Smith from an interception, and he converted his own score to give Fylde the lead at 8-12.

Lucs scrum was however dominant and Frank Kelly’s score followed excellent forwards pressure and a delightful kick through from Rob Bengry, with Silver converting from the touchline had the home side leading 15-12 at half time.

Fylde came out all guns blazing early in the second half with Nick Ashcroft and Ben Gregory both touching down within the first 5 minutes of the re-start for a try-bonus point. Both followed Lucs errors and, with Smith kicking a conversion, gave Fylde a lead 15-24. Silver kicked Lucs within a score from a penalty on 54 minutes, but Smith responded with a similar kick for Fylde on 73 mins to lead 18-27 as the game entered its final countdown.

It looked all over for Lucs when they conceded a scrum on Fylde’s 22. The referee indicated it was the final play and all Fylde had to do was win the scrum and kick to touch. But they infringed again against another excellent Lucs set piece and the home side chose to kick for goal. Silver hit the upright and Kelly went over and the home crowd erupted as Lucs sealed yet another losing bonus point.

Lucs will rue numerous missed opportunities when in excellent positions, giving Fylde the opportunity to clear their lines and play the game away from the danger areas despite dominating possession.
