With the experience of trying to buy Bradford (albeit in the wife's name) "how much is the debt" would have been the first question to ask. Maybe you're spot on as it's plausible that when he new he backed out without making a bid. Bottom line is, it's debt that finally tips RL clubs into administration in the first place, so it's difficult to know for sure.

For sure, he will be weighing up the cost of buying Widnes, with it's associated debts vs starting afresh.
It will depend just how much of the debt has to be cleared to allow him to take the reins and if the deal doesn't look attractive enough, he will walk away and spend his brass elsewhere.

Having said that, he is seriously loaded and you would expect that trying to work with him could be helpful, depending on whether he's wanting to save Widnes or just get a way back into the game. Time will tell.
