Cirencester 19 v 7 Brockworth

#Gloucester1

With Cirencester sitting in 3rd place in the Gloucestershire One League, and their opponents at the Whiteway sitting 3rd off the bottom, it looked like a home banker for Ciren. But with Brockworth winning their last three games, and beating 2nd place Cheltenham North the previous week, Ciren knew they had to be at their best.

The game started with the Badgers enjoying a large share of possession and gaining territory with some intelligent, probing kicks to the corner. Cirencester’s defence as it was all afternoon, was well organised, committed and determined not to let their opponent through. Once Ciren gained the ball they looked dangerous and this was proven when the muscular Ciren second row Luke Uzzell barged his way past defenders and with players on his back crashed over to open the scoring for Cirencester 5-0.

With this score Ciren gained confidence which saw them play with more continuity, resulting in their second try of the half scored by Ryan Brookes, who was on the end of several great off loads to score under the posts. Scott Cannon added the conversion 12-0. The first half was ended with an argument, which spilled off the pitch and resulted in two yellow cards.

With both sides now down to 14 men it was the away side that coped better dominating possession with their aggressive forwards and making in roads into the defensive line of Ciren. However the home side were in no mood to lie down, but with so much ball Brockworth did score their try 12-5.

Once more Ciren hit back after a knock on by Brockworth in the in-goal area from a penalty, a five-metre scrum was awarded and as for much of the game Ciren drove the scrum forward resulting in a penalty try 19-5.

In the latter stages of the game both sides worked hard to score the next try which was not to be. Final score 19-5. A well deserved win for Cirencester, with forwards and joint men of the match Will McCarthy and James Renowden putting in a massive effort.

Next weekend is a gap in the Gloucester 1 league however the 2XV has a friendly with Longlevens 2s before the Six Nations IRE v ENG game.
