Wakefield Trinity • Magic weekend
The point of magic weekend was always to try and expand the game, showcasing it to a new viewership, however now it appears more of a money spinner.
Dublin and Glasgow would be good shouts, both have strong rugby union followings though which could work either way- either 'no ruby league is rubbish' or 'oh rugby, yeah go on then'. On this theory (of targeting rugby union areas) you could even look at a bristol/ bath area too, maybe even Wales again.
Manchester or Liverpool would show that the RFL have changed their objective for the magic weekend and reverted to trying to earn some pennies.
FWIW I would like to see it in Dublin because this is a realistic place that could support a rugby league team in super league, with relatively low travel costs etc. Also local enough with cheap flights for many supporters to attend, even if it is expensive to stay (and drink).
