I expect a lot of RL fans will be keen on the idea of Hearn at first as they will see him as being able to raise the profile of the game better than the previous lot, the interesting point will be when Hearn looks to start treading on the game's traditions like Murdoch did in the 1990s.

Last week when the new structure was announced there was a thread on here where people were saying it should go back to the team that tops the league being rewarded with the trophy. Can you imagine what Hearn would think of that sort of thing? He will be all about creating events that make money. He comes in from outside the game and doesn't owe anything to rugby league traditions or people that say "what about our heritage and smaller clubs", he will ask, what creates events that will make money and that will mean taking RL to a new audience, not the traditional RL fan.

But he will also be able to see it from the new audience perspective and not be saddled with the baggage that comes from being a flat cap northerner like most people on here. How ever much you spend on marketing, Salford v Wakefield is not something that is going to attract much traction in the mainstream media. A mid-season hybrid rugby tournament with Saracens, Leicester, Wigan and Saints etc though would be another kettle of fish.
