RFU Junior Vase Cup: Round (2)
After playing Ross last week at home in the league and Ciren winning with a productive performance, this week Ciren travelled to Ross to play in the second round of the RFU Junior Vase Cup. The weather conditions were very wet throughout, and in such conditions the platform would be a critical element to allow control in the game.
It was Ross who gained the control throughout with the pack dominating the scrums and the contact area. With a scrum the near to the Ciren line, the Ross forwards powered forward, crashing over to score 7-0. This sparked the Ciren side into life and from a well won lineout the ball was moved into the mid-field with powerhouse winger Ben Ramsey coming of his wing to score under the posts, with the conversion kicked by Joe Hammond 7-7.
The game then became scrappy and disjointed, with Ross always having the upper hand physically ensuring field position. With the pressure always on the Ciren eight, penalties were conceded, making the half time score 13-7 following two further penalties kicked by Ross.
The theme of the first half continued with Ciren always struggling to get any fluency into their game. Ross scored their second try after being camped deep into the Ciren territory for some time 24-7.
As in the first half, Ciren then hit back from this latest setback to score out wide through Alex Hammond after some great possession rugby, with quick ruck ball creating space out wide to bring the score to 24-12, Zeb Waite adding the conversion.
After entering the game with a lot of confidence from the previous week result, Ciren will be disappointed in this defeat and ending their run in the RFU National Cup. But this week will see them return to league action against Smiths away, another challenge but one this young squad will relish.
Longlevens 2nds 17 v 18 Cirencester 2XV
Cirencester 2XV had a great win on their travels to Gloucester to play Longlevens 2s in a friendly. In tough challenging conditions, the Ciren side battled to a much-deserved win, which will boost their confidence ahead their league game against Hucclecote 2nds this coming weekend.
