CIRENCESTER SENIOR RUGBY
KEY DATES
SEASON 2018/19

All players.

I hope you are well and enjoying your summer break. This summer there has been a lot of work going on behind the scenes with the club refurb, being a major project undertaken. Here is a summary of the key dates moving forward. Please make a note.
1. Saturday 9th June (tomorrow) the Roundtable “Try a Sport” event is taking place at St Michael’s Park Cirencester (10am-5pm). This event is the opportunity for local sport to show budding sports people and children what sport can offer and how to get involved. We have stand with rugby activities taking place and some flyers to hand out. Would be good to see existing members attending, in support.
2. Wednesday 13th June touch rugby will once again commence at the club.
3. Saturday 23th June NatWest Work Force (9.00am start) the work party will mainly focus on areas outside of the club, strimming, tidying, general maintenance etc.
4. Wednesday 27th June (7.00pm start) Club AGM at the club house.
5. Thursday 21st, 28th June (6.45pm start) Ahead of pre-season skill sessions will take place. This will be an opportunity for players to have a re-introduction to the ball! With skill exercises focusing on hand eye co-ordination. This will take place on the paddock.
6. Tuesday 3rd July (6.45pm start) preseason will start. A presentation will take place on the first night followed by training. The minimum requirement for players is to be in a condition to make the gains expected throughout the pre-season period. This will only be achieved if players have done their own conditioning prior to pre-season starting.
Pre-season will focus on:
Conditioning, with speed endurance being the main theme.
Skill-based games, with passing techniques, space awareness, retaining the ball under pressure.
Understanding of the game plan and having the physical and mental ability to implement the structure.

Please note: Thursday 19 July: Hartpury RFC Head Coach Mark Cornwell will be our guest coach.

A successful pre-season is under pinned by every player attending as many sessions as possible, this will enable the player/squad to make significant gains.

7. 25th /26th/27th August Cirencester RFC Beer Festival
8. Saturday August 25th first warm up game (TBC)
9. Sunday August 26th Cirencester RFC Vets v Royal Logistics Corps Vets (charity game for MND)
10. Saturday September 1st last warm up game (TBC)
11. Saturday September 8th first league game v Old Elizabethans RFC (Away)

We all know the last couple of seasons have been difficult, and something will have to change to get our club back where we all perceive it should be. To do this we must all change, becoming more committed, with a tight squad of players who all aspire to play first, second and third team rugby every Saturday of the season.

Let’s start the change now. #newbeginnings
