The Virtual Terrace • Who would be the best available coach for Catalans?

Jean; who do you want as coach ? / who do you think will be next coach?

I wouldn't mind Justin Morgan. He has a lot of experience in France, and coached Toulouse to win the Challenge Cup quarter final against Widnes (I was there in Toulouse), and then play a semi-final against Leeds, in 2005 when Toulouse was a part-time team (with then traffic warden Sebastien Raguin side-stepping Leeds full back Richard Mathers to score a great try and winning BBC's MoM). Justin Morgan is now an Assistant coach of the New Zealand Kiwis.

However I don't know if Justin speaks much French. He also has a problem in that former Toulouse supremo Carlos Zalduendo hates him for leaving Toulouse for Hull KR and taking with him two of Toulouse's best players. Carlos and Catalans Chairman Bernard Guasch are friends. Nevertheless Justin is a good "man manager" and a nice guy, as well as knowing the technical side of coaching.

I certainly don't know whom the Catalans Chairman would prefer. But he obviously blundered in dumping Michael Potter at the end of 2008, and replacing him with Kevin Walters. He also blundered in choosing Steven McNamara last year. His only very good coaching selection decision was former Toulouse player and captain coach Trent Robinson, who coached Catalans in the heady days of 2011-2012.
