In Remembrance of Sensei Robert Fusaro (1933-2019)

The traditional karate community is saddened by the passing of Sensei Robert Fusaro, stalwart and torchbearer of our art. He was the pioneer who propelled the great following in North American Shotokan Karate to what it is today. Sensei Fusaro was a force of nature. He devoted his entire adult life to the art of traditional karate. In 1959, Sensei Fusaro founded Midwest Karate in Minneapolis, MN. Over the past 60 years, his teaching defined how traditional karate should be practiced. As a Founding Director of the American Amateur Karate Federation, he was both our technical leader and moral conscience.

In recognition of his lifetime achievements, Sensei Fusaro is awarded 10th Dan posthumously by the American Amateur Karate Federation (AAKF) and the World Traditional Karate-Do Federation (WTKF).

Sensei Fusaro is survived by his wife, Mrs. Gloria Fusaro, and his children, Senseis Michael Fusaro and Darrell Fusaro, who will carry on his legacy at Midwest Karate.
