Karate kid, 6, becomes youngest 1st Dan belt in UK — and possibly Europe

KARATE kid Grace Townsley has become a 1st Dan black belt at just six years old.

She is believed to be the youngest girl in Britain, and possibly Europe, to have such status.

Grace was four when she took up the sport. Now 4ft, she fights adults as well as other children at the Dw Ryu MMA Karate Club in Hebburn, South Tyneside.

She had to perform a kata consisting of 40 memorised moves to pass her black belt grading.

Grace, of Hebburn, said: “I want to keep doing karate so I can become a Grand Master.”

Mum Corrinna, 38, a dental hygienist and therapist, said: “Grace was a second attempt IVF baby.

“She’s been a little fighter since being in the womb.”

Dad Paul, 39, added: “If she can achieve this at this age, what will she go on to achieve as she gets older? It’s outstanding.

“We couldn’t be prouder.”
