Karate Combat to hold second event ‘Olympus’ in Greece

0

New combat sports league Karate Combat has announced their second event, Olympus, to be held in Athens, Greece on July 28.

Recently formed full-contact karate league known as Karate Combat, has just announced that their sophomore event entitled ‘Olympus’ will live stream from Athens, Greece on July 28. The upcoming venue will be the storied Zappeion Courtyard, which was the chosen site for the 1896 Olympics and also about a stones throw from the historic Parthenon. In a press release, the league’s CEO Michael DePietro had this to say about his upcoming event:

“This location for our League’s second event of the season has me awestruck.” DePietro continued, “I am proud to launch the live European Karate Combat debut from this hallowed ground.”

The marquee matchup for Karate Combat’s ‘Olympus’ card will take place in the welterweight division (165 pounds), when a four-time United Kingdom national champion in Jerome Brown is pitted against an eleven-time French national champion in Davy Dona. The co-main event of the night will take place in the heavyweight division (205 pounds), as Franklin Mina of Ecuador squares off with World Champion finalist Achraf Ouchen of Morroco. Competitors from all around the globe are slated to showcase their talents in Athens, including fighters from Greece, Turkey, Italy, Spain, the Dominican Republic, and Brazil.

This will be the followup to their rather entertaining inaugural event, ‘Inception,’ that went down in Miami, Florida this past April. The event showcased Karate Combat’s unique pit fighting area, complete with embankments on all four sides, which produced quite a few precarious predicaments for some of the fighters. Bloody Elbow was on location to cover the finish-happy first event, which produced an early ending in four out of the six bouts. Karate Combat’s ‘Olympus’ will stream live in the evening, local time, on karate.com, iOS and Android apps, and also partner platforms such as YouTube, Dailymotion, Titan, FITE, CBS’ Sports Live, Pluto TV, Sports Channel Network UK, and JungoTV’s CombatGO. Stay tuned to Bloody Elbow for all of your full-contact karate news, updates, coverage, and more!
