Video: Tom Brady tackles a sumo wrestler in Tokyo

0

Future NFL Hall-of-Famer Tom Brady entered a sumo ring in Japan: it did not end well.

Tom Brady, longtime quarterback of the NFL’s New England Patriots, is currently on a tour of Asia under the banner of athletic apparel brand Under Armour (for which Brady is an official shareholder). A few days ago, Brady’s multi-nation tour landed in Japan; home to many traditional martial arts, such as judo, karate, akido, and sumo.

Thanks to the Instagram account of Under Armour Japan, we can see that the five-time Superbowl winner got up and close with the fine art of sumo during a visit to a heya (gym that houses a team, or stable, or sumo wrestlers) in Tokyo.

Brady began by watching a number of rikishi (wrestlers) train. After gasping at the power of the scantily clad fighters, Brady is seen topless stepping into the dohyō (ring) to try his luck. Check out what happened next.

Though there’s no video to confirm it, one can assume Brady had better luck when taking on his son Jack.

This wasn’t the first time Brady had encountered martial arts on his tour of Asia. Earlier this week he was in Shanghai, practicing Tai Chi (which should not be used in an MMA fight BTW).
