GB Judokas Return to Competition at 2025 Skopje Senior European Cup
This weekend, 21 British judokas travelled to North Macedonia for the 2025 Skopje Senior European Cup, with two athletes making long-awaited returns to competition and others achieving their best results of the year.
The standout performer for GB was Lachlan Moorhead (Cannock Judo Club), a GB World Class Performance Programme judoka and 2022 Commonwealth Games champion. Competing in the -81kg category, Moorhead finished 5th in his first tournament since May 2024.
Moorhead faced a tough draw, meeting the eventual gold medallist in the round of 32 and being pushed into the repechage rounds. There, he impressed, winning three bouts with authority before narrowly missing out on a bronze medal. It was an excellent performance for his first competition back.
In the -73kg division, Cameron Charles (Camberley JC) achieved his best result of the year with 7th place, winning two fights and narrowly missing out on a bronze medal contest. Leah Hasler (Newbury JC) also recorded a season-best result, finishing 7th in the -48kg category.
Caitlin Barber (Middlesbrough JC), returning to competition for the first time since July 2024, secured a 7th-place finish. Like Moorhead, she faced a tough opening fight against an eventual bronze medallist but gained valuable mat time in her repechage bouts, an important step in her comeback.
Congratulations to all the athletes who travelled to Skopje – we hope everyone had a great time!
