0 12

30 British judoka are set to take on the best competitors at the 2025 Malaga Junior European Cup, competing across 14 different weight categories.

The -60kg category will feature Laurence Hill (Dragons Judo Academy), Jesse Chraniuk (High Wycombe Judo Centre), Rhys Clydesdale (Judo Club Esprit), and Joseph Buchanan (Sportif). In the -66kg division, Sol Savoury (Sportif) will be Britain’s sole representative.

The -73kg category is stacked with British talent, featuring seven entrants. Irakli Goginashvili (Palavani) aims to build on his gold-medal performance at the English Open last week, alongside silver medallist Ben Moore (Bradley Stoke Judo). Joining them are Owen Lambert (Bishops Stortford Judokwai), Eden Heffernan (Pro Judo), Ross McWatt (Garioch Judo), Jack Macleod (Garioch Judo), and Finlay Strang (Danderhall Judo), forming a formidable British contingent.

In the -81kg division, Fraser Clark (Clyde Judo), Arad Ghafoorirad (Pro Judo), and Oleksandr Ostrikov (Sportif) will take on the competition.

Britain will have sole representatives in both the -90kg and -100kg categories, with Griffyn Williams (Just Judo Yoshin) and Jaden Calder (Judo Club Esprit), fresh off his English Open gold, aiming to make their mark.

Rounding off the men’s lineup, James Weller-Henry (Budokwai), who secured a bronze medal at the Casablanca Junior African Cup last month, will compete in the +100kg category alongside Daniel Ede (Westcroft JC), both hoping to bring home podium finishes.

Leading the women’s lineup, Eva Ewing (Sportif) and Harriet Jones (Pro Judo) will compete in the -48kg category, while Jocelyn Callaghan (Destination Judo) and Amelia Alder (Judo Club Osaka), who took gold at the English Open, will represent Britain in the -52kg division.

In the -57kg category, Sarah Smith (Destination Judo) will be Britain’s sole competitor.

The -63kg division features a strong British trio. Millie Bayliss (Bradley Stoke Judo) will be aiming for success alongside Sophie Wood (Sportif), looking to build on her English Open gold medal, and Sunny Doig (Just Judo Yoshin), who will be hoping to go one step further after taking silver at the English Open.

Rounding out the women’s squad are three solo representatives with Paige Keane (Dragons Judo Academy) in the -70kg, Nicole Wood (Bishops Stortford Judokwai) in the -78kg, and Abigail Guest (Wolverhampton JC) in the +78kg, all aiming for podium success.

We wish all of our British judoka the best of luck as they take on Europe’s finest in Malaga. We can’t wait to see them in action!
