17 judoka set for Veteran World Championships
The Veteran World Championships get underway today with 17 GB Judo fighters in action across the three-day competition in Lisbon, Portugal.
2019 European Championship silver medallist Kyle Perry (-66kg) and bronze medallist Fred Itiose (+100kg) lead the team and are joined by Kevin Eve (-73kg) who finished 7th.
Making their fourth World Championship appearance is John Thacker in the -81kg category. He is joined by Mark Taylor (-73kg) who makes his third World Championships appearance.
1984 LA Olympic Games representative Nicholas Kokotaylo competes in the +100kg category in what will be his second World Championship appearance. Also competing at their second World Championships is Phillip Jones who competes in the -73kg category.
Making their Veteran World Championship debuts are Robert Edwards (-73kg), Michael Wootton (-73kg), Vladimir Oleinic (-81kg), Stephen Evans (-90kg), Christopher Horton (-100kg), Bogdan Lica (+100kg) and Stephen Howells (+100kg).
Martin Rivers has also been selected as a referee for the event.
