Tim Ellis Named Team Leader of England Judo For 2022 Commonwealth Games

England Judo are delighted to announce that Tim Ellis has been named Team Leader of the England Judo Squad for the upcoming 2022 Commonwealth Games due to be held on home soil in Birmingham.

Ellis is British Judo’s Performance Pathway Manager having held similar roles across the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) before making the switch to the tatami. He currently leads the strategic direction for the British Judo Pathway, directly managing the England Talent Development Programme.

He was understandably thrilled to be offered the position, in what will be a busy couple of years counting down to the Games.

“The opportunity to be Team Leader for the England Judo Team at the Commonwealth Games is a fantastic honour.”

“I am really excited to lead this team in the pursuit of a successful performance on home soil. The work has already started over the last few months and I hope that a successful Home Games can lift the nation as well as inspire the next generation of young fighters to achieve in this fantastic sport”.

England Judo Chair Peter Blewett echoed the sentiments of Ellis and praised his motivation for the role: “I am delighted that Tim has been appointed Team Leader for the England Judo Squad for the Commonwealth Games in 2022.”

“Tim will bring valuable experience gained as a well respected member of the World Class Performance Programme. His expertise, skill and experience will ensure that the England Team has the best possible preparation to achieve success.”

Mark England, Team England Chef de Mission was impressed with the candidates nominated for their sports: “Team Leaders play a pivotal role in the preparation of athletes and support staff in the lead up to and during the Commonwealth Games. It’s really encouraging that we have such a high-quality group as we prepare our sports for the Games in Birmingham.

“I’m confident they’ll ensure every athlete has everything they need to showcase their talent and achieve performance success on the home stage for Team England in less than two years’ time.”
