Brentford boss gives his take on Vicario handball and Spurs fans will enjoy it
Thomas Frank says that Guglielmo Vicario did handle the ball outside the box but he confesses that the incident did not define the result on Saturday.
What happened with Vicario and the handball?
There has understandably been a lot of controversy surrounding Vicario’s handball incident in the second half, with referee John Brooks not blowing his whistle even though the Tottenham goalkeeper appeared to obviously handle the ball outside the box.
The VAR did not intervene since the incident was not adjudged to be a clear and obvious error leading to a red card. After all, Vicario was quite a long way away from the goal and with several defenders covering behind him.
Ange Postecoglou has rejected suggestions that it was a pivotal moment in the game, pointing out that it would have only been a free-kick outside the box rather than a red card or a penalty (Football.London).
Thomas Frank gives his honest take
Frank also conceded that it was not a game-defining incident, suggesting that the referee had a good game apart from that one instance.
When asked about the Vicario handball incident, the Brentford boss told Sky Sports: “He handballed it, but that incident didn’t define the game. The margins need to go our way.
“It was a mistake, it could have helped us, but the probability for scoring from that is low. John Brooks, overall, had a very good game.”
Spurs Web Opinion
There is no doubt that Vicario’s last touch was made just outside the box, with the goalkeeper getting away with one there.
However, on the balance of play, there is no doubt that Spurs were worthy winners. The main takeaway for Spurs fans should be that the team need to learn how to kill games off quicker.
