Chelsea star Ben Chilwell slams handball rule after Marcos Alonso’s goal against Real Madrid is ruled out
BEN CHILWELL has hit out at the handball rule after teammate Marcos Alonso had a crucial goal disallowed during Chelsea’s defeat to Real Madrid.
The Blues were on the back foot from the start of Tuesday’s fixture after suffering a 3-1 defeat to the Whites in the first leg at Stamford Bridge.
But Thomas Tuchel’s hope was restored when goals from Mason Mount and Antonio Rudiger brought the score level.
Marcos Alonso then thought he had given Chelsea the lead with 28 minutes to go as he fired the ball into the top corner from close range.
However, his goal was disallowed as the ball appeared to ricochet off his hand before he made the shot.
Timo Werner scored shortly after, but the Blues’ efforts were cancelled out by goals from Rodrygo and Karim Benzema which saw Real Madrid win the game on aggregate.

Chelsea players were clearly frustrated with some of the decisions made in the game, especially the handball which prevented a potential winning goal.
Ben Chilwell took to Twitter to have his say on the officiating, simply stating: “This hand ball rule…”
But the injured full-back was also quick to praise his team for the performance, adding: “So proud, great performance! We good!”
Tuchel was also fuming with the outcome and slammed the officials in a post-match interview.

He said: “I’m very disappointed the referee didn’t go and check it himself.
“That’s what it’s like when you play Real Madrid in the Champions League.”
Another talking point from the game was Luka Modric’s jaw-dropping assist for Rodrygo, which saw him send a perfect pass directly into the path of the winger.
Many fans were stunned by the effort, with football journalist Fabrizio Romano going as far as saying: “Luka Modric assist should be exhibited in a museum. That’s not football – that’s art.”
Real Madrid will now have to face either Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City or local rivals Atletico Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals as they continue the hunt for their 14th European title.
