Man Utd player ratings: Cristiano Ronaldo hat-trick makes Tottenham crumble but Marcus Rashford struggles
CRISTIANO RONALDO led Manchester United to a major 3-2 victory over Tottenham at Old Trafford.
Ronaldo opened the scoring with a fabulous long-range shot after just 12 minutes but Spurs equalised with Harry Kane from the penalty spot after a handball by Alex Telles just 10 minutes before half-time.
The Red Devils regained the lead just three minutes later when Jadon Sancho teed Ronaldo up in front of Hugo Lloris – and the five-time Ballon d’Or winner didn’t miss.
The hosts’ performance dropped in quality and that led to an own goal by Harry Maguire in the 72nd minute, but Ronaldo saved his team’s blushes with a stunning header on 81 minutes.
Here’s how SunSport’s Kostas Lianos rated Rangnick’s men against Tottenham
David de Gea: 6/10
There’s not much he could have done to stop Harry Kane’s impeccable penalty take. Absolutely no way he could have prevented Harry Maguire’s own goal
Diogo Dalot: 7
Just like most of his team-mates, he was unable to offer much in attack. But he did save United from a certain goal on 26 minutes when he cleared Eric Dier’s header on the line.
Raphael Varane: 6
A solid display that didn’t allow Tottenham’s dangerous attack to create many chances. Harry Kane and Son Heung-min struggled to beat Varane.
Harry Maguire: 5
Was quite solid defensively until his own goal, which was unlucky. Reguilon’s cross was going to find a team-mate offside and the United captain’s season is going from bad to worse
Alex Telles: 7
Nothing he could have done with that handball, Dejan Kulusevski’s ball was too quick and powerful. He delivered a stunning corner-kick to find Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored the winner.

Nemanja Matic: 6
Solid display in terms of his defensive duties, but struggled to create much in attack especially during second half. But a good partnership with Fred as well as Paul Pogba
Fred: 7
Made a delicious flick towards Ronaldo in the first half, which led to the Portugal captain’s stunning opener. An impressive partnership with Matic and Pogba
Marcus Rashford: 5
Didn’t really feature throughout the encounter, struggled to get a ball in or add something substantial moving forward. Was substituted by Anthony Elanga

Jadon Sancho: 7
Unlike Rashford, Sancho was vibrant on the left wing and that led to his assist for Ronaldo’s second. Gave Matt Doherty a few headaches down the flank
Paul Pogba: 6
Couldn’t offer much in attack but put together some beautiful passing. Struggled with the rest of the team before Ronaldo’s third but then helped his team become more dangerous
Cristiano Ronaldo: 8
The only United star who didn’t struggle on the pitch at all. Scored an incredible hat-trick, notched a whopping 807 goals throughout his career which makes him the all-time top scorer in Fifa’s eyes. The result would have much different without him
SUB – Anthony Elanga: 6
Added an extra little spark in attack when he came on for Rashford. But nothing really game-changing on this occasion.
SUB – Edinson Cavani: N/A
SUB – Victor Lindelof: N/A
