VAR scandal as chiefs admit missing Djenepo handball that led to goal in Southampton’s win over Watford
BUNGLING VAR chiefs have admitted they missed a handball which could cost Watford boss Quique Sanchez Flores his job.
Sanchez Flores is facing the sack after only 12 games after his side crashed to a 2-1 defeat at Southampton after conceding twice in five minutes late in the game.
But replays showed Saints equaliser should have been ruled out after Moussa Djenepo scooped the ball forward with his seconds before supplying Danny Ings to score.
Yet despite the PGMOL bosses insisting any handball which leads to a goal being scored will be penalised, they failed to spot what had happened.
VAR Jarred Gillett looked over the incident back at the hub in Stockley Park but did not notice the offence taking place.
SunSport understands PGMOL officials now accept a mistake had been made and that the equaliser should actually have been ruled out.

Had that happened, the Hornets would have needed to hold out for another 12 minutes to record a much-needed win.
But instead they were hit with a double blow as James Ward-Prowse lashed home the winning goal seven minutes from time.
Sanchez Flores, 54, is now desperately clinging to his job with Watford winning just one of their last eight Premier League games.
