‘Calming influence’: Neville hails Fabinho in Liverpool FC’s 3-1 win over Man City

Gary Neville praised Fabinho’s goal and performance in Liverpool FC’s 3-1 win against Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

Liverpool FC broke the deadlock in the sixth minute when the Brazilian midfielder netted a powerful strike from outside Manchester City’s penalty area.

The Reds survived a handball claim down the other end of the pitch in the lead up to the goal after Trent Alexander-Arnold handled the ball.

The Citizens were 2-0 down in the 13th minute when Mohamed Salah guided a header past Manchester City’s second-choice goalkeeper Claudio Bravo.

Liverpool FC made it 3-0 in the 51st minute when Senegal international Sadio Mane scored his seventh league goal of the Premier League season.

Bernardo Silva got one goal back to ensure a nervous ending at Anfield but Liverpool FC held on to move eight points clear at the top of the table.

Former Manchester United defender Neville singled out Fabinho for praise after the Brazilian midfielder’s influential performance at Anfield.

“I’m going to go for the man who scored the first goal, Fabinho,” Neville told Sky Sports during his commentary on Liverpool FC’s 3-1 win. “It was a great goal and he is a calming influence in the centre of that midfield.”

Liverpool FC finished in second place in the Premier League table last season despite earning a record 97 points.

Manchester City won the title by a point thanks to a victory over Brighton on the final day of the season.

However, the Eastland outfit’s 2-1 win against Liverpool FC at The Etihad proved to be the decisive result.

Liverpool FC will return to Premier League action with a trip to Crystal Palace on Saturday 23 November.

Manchester City will take on Chelsea FC at The Etihad on the same day.
