Liverpool handball and offside DID get checked by VAR – and both decisions on the pitch were correct, claim PGMOL
VAR did check over the offside and handball claims against Liverpool, claim PGMOL.
Manchester City were left chasing the game after two controversial incidents during the 3-1 defeat at Anfield.
Liverpool took the lead just 22 seconds after Trent Alexander-Arnold appeared to handle the ball inside his own area.
Furious fans expected to see the video assistant referees award a penalty, but surprisingly the decision was not overturned.
And supporters were left stunned that Mohamed Salah’s goal did not appear to be checked over by VAR after he appeared to be in an offside position.
It has now been confirmed by Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) that both decisions were checked over – and the right outcome was reached.
In regards to the handball appeal, PGMOL said: “The VAR checked the penalty appeal for handball against Trent Alexander-Arnold and confirmed the on-field decision that it did not meet the considerations for a deliberate handball.”
And for the second goal, PGMOL said: “VAR checked for possible offside, and confirmed that the Salah goal was correct.”
In the studio at half-time, Jose Mourinho slammed the inconsistency of the new technology.

He said: “That’s the worst thing. It is the inconsistency. Next week a similar thing will be a penalty.”
Graham Souness added: “You can’t just stop it for the sake of stopping it. We’ve all seen them given and not given.”
And Vincent Kompany said: “The action should have been stopped there and then. You can argue about Bernardo handball, it is in a natural position and he doesn’t know anything about it. That is a handball and it’s not a natural position.”
