Bolton Draw Player Ratings: Decent Start For Debutants

0 9

How Jack viewed the action from the away end

Emilio Martinez - 6

Looked good on his debut, bit shaky to start off with, but looked composed on the ball. Made some good saves to keep the scoreline at 0-0 at half-time.

Chris Gunter - 6

First start since the middle of December. Didn’t do too bad, but got caught out a few times that allowed Bolton to create chances because the right-back mistimed a challenge. Also earned a silly yellow card for a stupid handball.

Liam Moore - 6

Solid performance from centre-half. Won his headers and made the right decisions when playing out from the back.

Matt Miazga - 6

Decent debut, got caught out a few times but recovered well. If used well he can be an asset when defending and attacking corners.

Andy Yiadom - 6

Similar performance to Gunter; but did better going forward especially when at left-back. Just couldn’t beat his man and get a cross in.

Andy Rinomhota - 6

Very shaky to start off with, giving the ball away cheaply. But composed himself as the game went on. As always he worked hard for the team, breaking things up. However he was arguably a fault for Bolton’s goal after failing to stop the cross.

Leandro Bacuna - 6

Good performance, tried to get things going when he had the ball along with breaking things up in midfield.

Mo Barrow - 5

My criticism for Barrow boils down to two things, his decision making and his end product. He didn’t live up to expectations, rarely beating his man or not finding his man when putting a cross in. If his end product was better, Reading may have driven back south with three points rather than one. This is the same player that has played Premier League football, but for me he is not doing enough to help his team’s cause. If Reading accept a bid for Barrow, I’m all for it now.

John Swift - 6

Had a great chance to score with a free header within the first ten minutes but failed to score when he should have done better. Other than that, he had a quiet game but kept the ball well when in possession.

Sone Aluko - 6

A quieter game for the midfielder compared to his previous outings, especially on the wing. But once he moved to the centre he had more of an impact, trying to play his teammates in. The No. 10 role is surely his best position now.

Nelson Oliveria - 7

My man of the match. He didn’t stop working through the 90 minutes until he was subbed. Brought his teammates into play with his hold-up play and strength. Brilliant penalty under pressure which ultimately wasn’t enough. Needs to work on his ability to deliver power to his shots. Huge blow if his muscle injury picked up is serious.

Substitutes

Garath McCleary - 6

Great impact off the bench as seen by winning the penalty. However he himself got caught out for the goal by not staying with his man from the throw in.

Tyler Blackett - 5

Caught too many times when he came on. Bolton managed to put more crosses into the box when he came on as most of the play came down our left hand side. Clearly needs to work on his defending.

Danny Loader: N/A

Not enough time to make an impact - but a poor sub from Gomes. The young forward was never going to win the headers against David Wheater. The lad clearly isn’t ready to help close out games from a winning position.
