Just in: Blow for Carrick as 26yo now ruled out of Brentford clash due to 'groin discomfort'

Manchester United have suffered a late fitness blow ahead of their crucial Premier League clash with Brentford at Old Trafford today.

According to reports, Matheus Cunha is set to miss the Brentford showdown due to groin discomfort.

The Brazilian will now try to recover in time for the Liverpool clash next weekend.

Cunha proved to be the match-winner against Chelsea, scoring the only goal to secure all three points for United.

He has enjoyed a productive campaign, registering eight goals and four assists in 30 Premier League appearances.

The 26-year-old has missed just three league matches this season through injury.

With Bryan Mbeumo struggling for rhythm lately, Cunha has stepped up despite being deployed on the left wing.

There is no doubt the Red Devils will miss his presence in decisive moments.

Not only his technical quality but also his fighting spirit has given United’s attack a sharper edge.

United head coach Michael Carrick may now turn to Amad Diallo as a direct replacement.

Bryan Mbeumo could be shifted to the left flank with Diallo operating on the opposite side and Benjamin Sesko leading the line.

Carrick could also hand an opportunity to Mason Mount, who will be desperate to end the 2025-26 season on a high note.

Mount has managed just 11 minutes under Carrick after a knock sidelined him for six matches.

Patrick Dorgu is reportedly available for today’s game and he could make an impact from the bench in the second half.

Carrick will hope that Cunha is able to make a swift return with only four games remaining in the campaign after today.
