Stage set for thrilling CAF African Schools Football Championship finale in Harare

The stage is set for a historic double-header as the CAF African Schools Football Championship finals take center stage in Harare, Zimbabwe, climaxing a celebration of emerging talent from across the continent.

The fourth edition, hosted at the Gateway High School, has showcased a great breed of emerging African talent over the last four days, and Friday’s final will be a spectacle worthy of the occasion.

Girls’ defending champions Ghana will square it out with Burkina Faso in a thrilling West African derby, while the boys’ final will pit East Africa’s representatives Uganda, taking on the highly fancied Senegal.

Girls’ Final: Ghana vs Burkina Faso
Defending champions Ghana have proved their mettle in the tournament, and their well-worked 1-0 win over Zambia was testament to their ambition to ensure they retain the trophy.

They will take on the Burkinabe in what will be a repeat of their Group A fixture, where the latter emerged 1-0. While Ghana have picked up their lessons and will be keen to make amends, Burkina Faso, who beat Morocco in their semi will look to show it was no fluke.

Ghana have impressed throughout the tournament with their technical quality, fluid passing, and attacking intent, making them one of the standout sides.

But, Burkina Faso have shown steel, and the nerve to hold off big moments. They have conceded only twice in the tournament, and their backline will be one of the key areas for them to clinch the crown.

Boys’ Final: Uganda vs Senegal
Uganda and Senegal both topped their groups with identical seven points, but their paths in the semis were a contrast. While Senegal easily walked past Morocco with a 4-0 scoreline, Uganda were made to sweat by Benin, beating them 4-3 on penalties.

Senegal beat Benin 1-0 in the group stages, and this might be a confidence booster ahead of the title.

Uganda have captured attention with their energy, physicality, and cohesive team play, and these are some of the qualities they will look to display against the fluid Senegalese team.

Senegal, led by their influential skipper Bara Gueye have been an attacking spectacle to watch. Their performance against Morocco stamped their favorites tag, but Uganda will be no pushover in the grand finale.

The winners in both the boys’ and girls’ categories will receive USD 300,000, while runners-up will earn USD 200,000 and third-placed teams USD 150,000.
