Tottenham players already love one aspect of Roberto De Zerbi’s training sessions

Alasdair Gold has revealed that one of Roberto De Zerbi’s coaching methods has proven a real hit with the Tottenham squad.

De Zerbi has now had a week to work with the Tottenham squad, although many internationals only joined the group last Friday.

The anticipation is building ahead of the Italian’s first game charge at the Stadium of Light, and supporters are eagerly waiting for his first press conference on Friday.

A reputed journalist, who is well-connected at Hotspur Way, has shed light on the mood at the club during the new Spurs boss’ first few days in charge.

We heard reports earlier this week that some Spurs players had raved about De Zerbi to their friends after their first few training sessions with the 46-year-old.

Alasdair Gold has now confirmed that there is a real feeling of positivity at Tottenham in the lead up to the Italian’s first game in charge.

When asked what impact De Zerbi’s arrival has had at the club, the journalist said on Talking Tottenham podcast: “Training sessions early on have been really positive. You know, I was about to say, I’ve been fortunate to cover this club for a decade. I don’t know if it’s fortunate or mad or what it is, but certainly it’s been a long time.

“Over that time, obviously, you build up a lot of links with players, people around players, people around training sessions, everything. The word so far has been really positive. We kind of knew this was going to be the case anyway.”

Spurs players are loving individualised training sessions under De Zerbi

The Football.London reporter revealed De Zerbi has already instituted a big change since arriving through the door, with the players being coached more individually.

Gold revealed that the players are really enjoying the individualised training and the new Spurs coach’s emphasis on improving each of them.

He added: “One of the things that I’ve been hearing out of Spurs from people around the players, and also just people that work in the building as well, is that the big thing that the players have really liked about De Zerbi so far is that they feel like they’re being coached individually as well.

“Rather than just trying to fit each player into his system, the Italian has been working with most players and trying to mould them into better players. It’s like, sometimes people come in with an overall philosophy, and it’s about that system.

“You work with this system, you do this, you do that, this is what I want. Whereas with him, there’s an element of that, but there’s also an element of, here’s what I want you to be like as a player, what I believe you can do.”
