Man Utd winger now wants 44yo to become permanent manager next season
Manchester United winger Amad Diallo has publicly thrown his support behind Michael Carrick to take charge on a permanent basis.
The Red Devils turned to Carrick as the interim head coach following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim earlier this year.
Since stepping into the role, the former United midfielder has overseen an impressive run of form.
He has guided the team to seven wins, two draws and just one defeat in his first 10 matches.
Speaking at a press conference in Ireland, Diallo spoke glowingly about Carrick.
He said (via Beanyman Sports): “We think he’s the right man [to get the job].
“He knows the club, played for the club and has great experience to manage this club. He has not been here long but he has been doing very good and his relationship with the players is very good.
“Sometimes you need this kind of manager [to] bring the club [to] where they belong. I think the club will decide at the end of the season [but] my honest opinion is we’re really happy to have him as a manager and he’s doing well.”
Michael Carrick is in pole position
The 44-year-old was barely considered a contender for the permanent role before being handed the interim reins.
United had been heavily linked with elite managerial names such as Luis Enrique, Carlo Ancelotti, Thomas Tuchel, Eddie Howe and Unai Emery.
Tuchel signed a contract extension with England, keeping him with the national team until 2028. Ancelotti is also tipped to remain with Brazil beyond the World Cup.
Enrique may represent a dream appointment, but prising him away from Paris Saint-Germain at the peak of their dominance appears highly unlikely.
Carrick has firmly positioned himself as the frontrunner for the job, though he must maintain momentum over the final seven matches.
The Red Devils are now well-placed to secure Champions League qualification, but Carrick will be judged on delivering that objective by ensuring a top-three finish in the Premier League.
Diallo’s strong endorsement could also serve as a clear signal to INEOS, highlighting the growing belief in Carrick.
