Evesham United 1-1 Poole Town – Match Report

0 1

Poole Town remain 4th in the Southern League Premier South after a 1-1 draw away to Evesham United on Good Friday.

Kris Campbell, Henry Spalding and Samuel Ayo Faniyan returned to the side following the 0-0 draw with Bracknell Town last Saturday.

The Dolphins got the game underway in Evesham in challenging conditions with the wind ensuring the majority of the first half was played in the air.

It was the home side who were on top in the opening stages, and despite limited chances in the game, looked the most dangerous.

Evesham took the lead on the 28th minute through Ethan Dunbar after some nice build up play from the hosts.

Poole grew into the game after the Evesham opener; they went close through Ayo who was unable to keep his shot down after being well found by Shaquille Gwengwe.

The first half came to a close with Evesham in the controlling position at the break.

The second 45 got underway with the Dolphins having the wind on their side and it did not take long for them to create their first opportunity.

Shaquille Gwengwe was brought down inside the area on the 48th minute and stepped up from the spot and converted to draw the game back to level terms.

It was all Poole Town throughout the second half, but they were unable to generate any clear-cut chances in search of taking the lead.

Harvey Slade had a huge chance on the 85th minute after great work from Antonio Diaz down the left-hand side, but he was unable to find the target.

With seconds left on the clock, the ball fell to Slade again inside the area as he found the back of the net, but the linesman put his flag up and the goal was controversially disallowed for a handball.

The full time whistle went with both sides taking a point; next up for Poole is a home match against Wimborne Town on Easter Monday.
