Elite to emerging: Five left-backs Man United could sign this summer

0 12

Manchester United have to bolster multiple positions in the upcoming summer transfer window.

While signing elite midfielders is a clear priority, INEOS will also target enhancing their left flank with a winger and a full-back.

We believe United have a four-man shortlist for wingers.

Luke Shaw has started every Premier League game this season. He deserves applause for working on his fitness and staying available.

However, with the club pushing to return to the UEFA Champions League, relying solely on Shaw would be a risky approach given the demands of a packed schedule.

Here is a detailed look at five potential left-back targets for the Red Devils this summer:

Lewis Hall – The complete package

Hall has arguably been the standout left-back in the Premier League this season.

He has made 24 appearances for Newcastle United this season, bagging one goal and one assist.

The 21-year-old is an efficient dribbler, possesses a fighting character and regularly plays progressive passes.

Given his rapid rise and well-rounded skill set, Newcastle would demand a premium fee to even entertain offers.

With the Magpies likely to miss out on European football next season, Hall could be tempted by a move to an elite club competing on the biggest stage.

Malick Diouf – High risk, high reward

Slavia Prague sold Diouf to West Ham United last summer for a record transfer fee in their history.

The 21-year-old has impressed with his attacking skills, registering five assists in 25 league games.

Despite West Ham’s struggles this term, Diouf has stood out with his ability to whip in dangerous crosses. He boasts a 20% success rate, notably higher than Hall (17%).

However, his technical game remains a work in progress, particularly in tight build-up situations. His limited experience at the highest level makes him a risky gamble.

Tyrick Mitchell – Defensive rock

If defensive solidity is the priority, United need to look no further than Mitchell.

The 26-year-old is an excellent one-on-one defender and rarely gets beaten by his marker.

He loves to tackle and win possession but lacks the ability to play incisive passes forward.

With just five assists in over 230 appearances for Crystal Palace, his offensive output remains minimal.

That said, with his contract running down next summer, he could represent a smart, cost-effective acquisition.

Myles Lewis-Skelly – Long-term project

Lewis-Skelly enjoyed a breakthrough campaign with Arsenal last season, starting 26 matches and showcasing his versatility.

However, he has since slipped into a more peripheral role under Mikel Arteta, limiting his opportunities to build momentum.

He impressed in the left-back spot but could also play as a midfielder. He is a technically gifted player but he is still too young to start regularly every game at United.

His physical development and in-game awareness still need polishing before he can handle the weekly demands at a club like United.

With much of the transfer budget expected to be allocated to midfield reinforcements, a low-cost move for Lewis-Skelly could be a calculated gamble with significant upside.

Nathaniel Brown – Game-changing threat

Another exciting option is Eintracht Frankfurt star Nathaniel Brown, a prototype of the modern attacking full-back.

The 22-year-old has enjoyed a standout campaign, registering four goals and four assists in 26 Bundesliga appearances.

He is not afraid to make tackles, though his positioning and consistency at the back still require refinement.

United would get a high-impact attacking full-back if they sign Brown this summer. However, they may have to pay a fee in the region of £53m-£62m to bring him to Old Trafford.
