FSG now want one thing from Arne Slot as Liverpool sack decision made
FSG remain in full support of Arne Slot despite Liverpool’s turbulent 2025/26 campaign, reports Paul Joyce.
The Merseysiders currently sit in fifth place in the Premier League table and are still likely to secure Champions League football if they can manage to drop any further.

That’s thanks to the extra Champions League spot the English top-flight is currently set to be awarded based on England’s coefficient ranking.
FSG continue to back Arne Slot as Liverpool head coach
The powers that be behind the scenes are not of the view that Slot got lucky with Liverpool’s title win last term.
As such, the club’s decision-makers are of the mind that there are mitigating factors to consider before making a definitive decision about the man in the dugout.
Right now, their position is that they want the former Feyenoord boss to ’emerge from the turbulence’.
“There are some Premier League clubs, where the pain threshold is lower, who might have already swung the axe. FSG remain steadfastly behind Slot and want him to emerge from the turbulence,” Joyce reported for The Times.
While the final leg of the season feels important, FSG do not believe lightning simply struck last term. The prevailing view is that Slot was crucial to the league title and that the head coach with a track record of success has not just disappeared.
“This has been a season of, at times, unprecedented challenges, beginning with the death of Diogo Jota in a car crash. If underlying issues are resolved, gaps in the squad ironed out, then FSG would expect the Dutchman to reassert himself.”
How difficult that decision is increasingly becoming, however, amid ongoing poor results domestically remains to be seen.

And with well-respected candidates like Xabi Alonso waiting in the wings, there’s a growing case for Liverpool to pull the plug on Slot this summer.
Liverpool have gone beyond mitigating factors
It feels incredibly harsh on the Dutchman, given all he’s already achieved at the club.
But we’ve yet to witness that spark of improvement, which promises that things will drastically improve next term.
Yes, of course, there is an argument to be made that handing over the right tools will enable Arne Slot to get a stronger tune out of this Liverpool squad. After all, we’ve been missing a serious threat on the wings for the vast majority of the campaign. And it also has to be acknowledged that Liverpool’s defence would have likely fared somewhat better with the inclusion of Marc Guehi in the summer.
Even so, can any of us confidently say that the manager has made the absolute most of the tools at his disposal?

We desperately want Slot to succeed and prove his worth. We’d much rather see the Reds continue with a league-winning manager and give him the chance to figure things out.
But he’s had time and this Liverpool side still looks virtually unrecognisable from what came before.
At what point does it become negligent to keep Arne Slot in the role?
