‘I really care’ – Mauricio Pochettino makes big Tottenham relegation prediction
Mauricio Pochettino has his say on Tottenham’s survival hopes, with Spurs’ situation becoming increasingly desperate as the season reaches its final stretch.
The current international break has offered some respite for Tottenham Hotspur, who are plummeting rather quickly towards the bottom three in the Premier League table.
A winless 2026 under two different managers is far from an encouraging sign for a club looking to avoid the drop.
Spurs have now taken yet another drastic action in a bid to salvage something from an already abysmal campaign, parting with Igor Tudor and looking to hire Roberto De Zerbi.
The former Brighton manager comes into what can only be described as a crisis in north London. He has a big job on his shoulders, having to motivate a deflated dressing room while getting a tired support back on side.
Tottenham survival hopes addressed by Mauricio Pochettino
Of course, avoiding relegation is now the focus for Tottenham, with seven games left in the Premier League season.
Whether Spurs will stay up or go down remains a big question for many, but Mauricio Pochettino has now had his say on their chances. Speaking when asked about Tottenham’s survival hopes, he said:
“Yes, they can stay up. Of course, it is a difficult time, but they have the capacity to win, with or without a new coach.
“It’s a club that i really care about and I really trust they will stay in the league.”
Spurs facing defining run under Roberto De Zerbi
At the moment, one point is the difference between Spurs and 18th-place West Ham United, leaving the margin for error rather small.
But getting nine points from their final 21 should be enough to see Tottenham stay up in the top flight.
However, looking at the record of Roberto De Zerbi, who is set to come in, according to the latest reports, Spurs might just be scratching their heads.
In his first season at Brighton, the Italian struggled to make an immediate impression – having managed two draws and three defeats, including a 2-0 loss to Thomas Frank’s Brentford in his first five games.
However, he did go on to win the next two after that tricky spell, ending with eight points from his first seven matches. If he can manage a similar point tally in the first seven games for Spurs, he could well keep them safe.
