St Johnstone v Queen’s park – Match Preview

0 1

IT’S the final countdown in the William Hill Championship with six games to go.

Queen’s Park head along the A9 to face league leaders St Johnstone at the earlier kick-off time of 1pm.

With Scotland on the southside the Spiders were scheduled away from home, and with kick-off next door at Barclays Hampden listed at 5pm for the match with Japan, both clubs agreed to shift the game to allow fans to see both games.

The early start follows a night match between the pair last month, which ended in a 1-1 draw at The city Stadium and in the three games prior there have been plenty of goals – 12 to be precise.

Saints boast a star-studded forward line littered with ex-Spiders players too, and head coach Sean Crighton is looking forward to pitting his wits against Simo Valakari for the fourth time this season.

The Season so far...

St Johnstone and Queen’s Park have enjoyed three tight games so far this season – with late goals proving crucial in all three.

A winner from former Spider Josh McPake snatched all three points in injury time at The city Stadium back in September, then three goals in the final ten minutes saw a frantic finish to the next meeting at McDiarmid Park – again ending in the Saints’ favour.

The most recent meeting saw a late goal from Spiders captain Euan Murray saw the points shared on the southside last month – although another former-QP man, Josh Fowler, was on target too.

Each result has contributed to the Perth side’s promotion bid and, with six games to go, Simo Valakari’s side are in pole position for the William Hill Championship title.

Queen’s Park have moved up the table – that late point in February helping during a purple patch of form – and are continuing to seek safety from the relegation zone and League One play-offs.
