Fernandes is 'impressed': Man Utd poised to make blockbuster 'formal approach' for £55m star

Manchester United are gearing up for a significant midfield overhaul in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Joao Gomes and James Garner are also linked with a move to Old Trafford.

Too expensive for Man United

The Magpies are unlikely to let Tonali leave easily, especially after his impressive performances this season.

However, their hopes of securing European football next term are fading fast, with the Magpies currently languishing in 12th place on 42 points.

With just seven games remaining, a late surge into the top five and to secure Champions League qualification would require nothing short of a miracle.

Failure to qualify for Europe’s elite competition could tempt Tonali to consider a move away from St James’ Park.

A switch to Man United would represent a major step up in profile for the Italian midfielder, but it would not come cheap.

Newcastle are expected to demand a fee in the region of £100 million to sanction his departure after signing him for £55m from AC Milan in 2023.

Fernandes is one of the best players in Europe and is known for his football intelligence.

However, United must be cautious with such a significant investment and ensure it is reserved for a player capable of transforming them into genuine title contenders. Whether Tonali fits that profile remains a major point of debate.
