Tim Sherwood reveals what Harry Kane has told him about Premier League return: ‘It depends where Tottenham are’
Tim Sherwood has revealed whether he thinks Harry Kane would be open to a fairytale return to Tottenham Hotspur one day.
Tottenham have a first refusal option on their former striker, giving the club the right to match any bids that arrive for the forward.
Reports indicate that Spurs are hoping to pull on Kane’s heartstrings by selling the prospect of a fairytale return to N17, but it remains to be seen if that would appeal to the striker.
Tottenham’s record goalscorer has played down talks of leaving Bayern Munich, and has suggested that he could stay in Bavaria beyond the end of the season.
Tim Sherwood reveals if Harry Kane would return to Tottenham
Tim Sherwood has now revealed that he has spoken to the England captain about his plans, and the striker is clear about one thing.
Kane will only return to the Premier League if it is to compete for major honours, having developed a taste for silverware in Bavaria.
Sherwood told NewBetting Offers: “Harry Kane will only come back to win. When I’ve had conversations with Harry, he said he’ll only return to the Premier League if it’s a club he feels can win it. Because he’s been used to that now. He’s going to win again this season by the looks of it.
“He’s still got a little bit of work to do, but he’s enjoying it. The fact that he’s actually getting rewarded for his efforts. He’s always been rewarded individually, but you play football to win trophies with your teammates and that is what he’s experiencing at the moment. I just think he will want to continue with that if he possibly can once he decides he wants to come back to the UK.”
Sherwood suggests Kane can fire Man United to the title
Man United have also been credited with an interest in Kane, and Sherwood believes that Tottenham fans should understand the striker’s decision if he does go to Old Trafford.
The former Spurs boss suggested that the 32-year-old would be a game-changing signing for the Red Devils and could even deliver them a Premier League title.
Sherwood added: “Kane to Man Utd? I think I would understand it if I was a Tottenham fan. If I was a Tottenham fan, he’s gone over to Germany, won two titles or maybe three if he stays there for another season, which looks likely.
“It depends on where Tottenham are at that moment in time. Then, forget Manchester United, but he’s not going to Arsenal, is he? He’s not going to Arsenal and I very much doubt he would ever go to Chelsea as well. So, he’s not really kicking them when they’re down that much.
“It would still hurt if he’s come back to these shores and doesn’t play in their shirt again, which I’m sure he would love to, but they need to be able to win. He needs to feel that the club can win for him to be able to do that.
“I mean, he’s almost broken Alan Shearer’s record and he would want to have his eyes set on that. In a team that never won anything, imagine him in a team that actually wins something. I mean, he’d probably do it in double quick time. I can’t imagine United winning the title at the moment, so it’s difficult. Can I imagine them winning the title with Harry Kane? Yeah.”
