Murray: We Deserved The Three Points
Hibs Women Head Coach Joelle Murray spoke highly of her side's performance as we drew 2-2 with Rangers on Wednesday evening.
The only frustration that remained from the match was our inability to find a winning goal after twice leading throughout the match.
Speaking to Hibs TV after the match, Murray admitted her side were chagrin in the aftermath of the encounter after sharing the points from a tough battle.
"It was a solid performance. We asked the girls to control the game and I thought we'd done that in abundance. The girls are deflated. It feels like a defeat because of the opportunities we had.
"I thought we were very ball-dominant. I thought we were very, very good tonight. We just couldn't get that winning goal, unfortunately.
"So, it’s a good point, but I think we fully deserved the three tonight, given the opportunities that we had throughout the 90 minutes."
Kathleen McGovern curled in a terrific opener whilst Tiree Burchill headed home an excellent second, though a Katie Wilkinson header and an own goal twice pegged back the Hibees.
It was two momentous finishes for each player, as McGovern netted her 50th Hibernian goal - in just 57 appearances - whilst Burchill was making her first start following a frustrating injury lay-off.
"It's an incredible achievement from (McGovern). That goal contribution is unbelievable.
"It doesn't surprise me. She keeps breaking records. She keeps doing stuff like she's done tonight and certainly there'll be more to come from her.
"A really good goal," Murray continued, discussing Burchill's goal. "I think the play in itself as a whole was great.
"It was a great drive and run by Rosie, and a really nice stand-up ball to the back area and Tiree stepped on and met it really, really nicely.
"She's obviously been out for a bit of time. First start since being back and getting the goal to mark that occasion. She'll be chuffed with that."
A busy week for Hibs Women keeps up the pace, and the importance, as the girls now head into an Edinburgh Derby at Oriam this Sunday.
Looking ahead to the fixture, Murray is fully aware of what is at stake and hopes her team will be rewarded following back-to-back draws with an overdue victory.
"It's massive. I think for us, as I say, we're so proud of the way they've conducted themselves at the weekend there and tonight. I feel we should have got more from both games, in my opinion.
"So for us, the message is keep doing what you're doing. You'll get your rewards and hopefully that comes on Sunday in the derby."
