Tottenham's dream midfield signing is also wanted by Man United, Chelsea, and Liverpool

0 7

At least three Premier League rivals have Tottenham’s dream midfield target on their radar ahead of the summer window, according to Pete O’Rourke.

Tottenham are reportedly plotting an ambitious summer rebuild of their squad if they stay up this season.

One would imagine that strengthening their midfield would be a priority for the Lilywhites, who have lacked the ability to progress the ball through the middle of the park all season.

Unsurprisingly, signing a creative midfield passer is thought to be on Spurs’ agenda, and one England international is near the top of their wishlist.

Tottenham will face intense competition for Adam Wharton

It has been reported over recent months that Adam Wharton has been identified by Spurs as their dream midfield target.

However, journalist Pete O’Rourke has now revealed that Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea are also keen on the Crystal Palace man, as are some elite clubs around Europe.

When asked about where Wharton could end up this summer, O’Rourke told Football Insider: “There’s no doubt he’s going to be on the radar of a number of clubs. He has been on the radar of several top Premier League clubs for a while now, with United amongst them.

“You’ve got the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and others abroad who are very much interested in Wharton. We know he is going to be the subject of transfer speculation this summer because of how well he is playing for Crystal Palace. He is a key man for them.

“Wharton, at some point, will want to be playing at the highest level possible. I think he’s admitted before that he sees himself playing Champions League football and wants to become a regular in the England squad as well.

“He’s obviously one of the players who is on United’s list as they look to restructure their midfield next season as well. There are a number of players that they are looking at, and Wharton is on that list.”

How much is Wharton likely to cost in the summer?

It was reported during last summer’s transfer window that Palace had slapped a £100m price tag on Wharton.

More recently, it has been claimed that the Tottenham target may be allowed to leave Selhurst Park for £65m plus add-ons at the end of this season.

However, one would think that Spurs would not be an attractive destination for the former Blackburn Rovers man, given that they are set to miss out on European qualification and look likely to finish behind Palace.
