Dundee United 1 Hibs U19s 0
The wee Hibees' 22-match unbeaten league run came to an end on Monday evening as they fell 1-0 to Dundee United at Foundation Park.
Hibs enjoyed the greater share of attempts on goal, particularly in the first half, but Jack Anderson's accurate strike on 79 minutes ensured all three points stayed in Dundee.
There was just one change to the XI that secured a 3-0 win over Motherwell last week; with centre-forward Dean Cleland replacing wing-back Owen Calder.
Hibs XI: Mallon, Buckley, Gillie, Riddell, McNeill, Bruce, Cleland (MacDonald 46'), McDonald (Burns 66'), Downie (Gallacher 80'), Davidson, Jimenez.
Substitutes: Brown, MacDonald, Burns, Gallacher.
In the fifth minute, Reiss Downie was first to test United keeper Kuba Zerebecki - though his powerful 20-yard effort was held with relative ease by the opposition number one.
The home team would threaten for the first time after six minutes, as Harry Welsh shot into the side-netting from 10 yards out following a smart cut-back from the right-hand side.
Zerebecki would be forced to atone for a near-costly mistake minutes later when his slack pass was interecepted by Luke Davidson. The attacker was challenged, allowing the ball to fall into the path of Downie, whose low strike was pushed over the bar by the host's relieved goalkeeper.
Welsh once again showed his threat for United, this time forcing a low stop from Ryan Mallon with a fierce first-time strike after receiving the ball on the edge of the penalty area.
In quick succession, Hibs would twice go close as Davidson would miss the target from a 25-yard free-kick before Logan Jimenez fizzed a well-taken shot just over the crossbar from a tricky angle.
Hibs would begin to take greater control of the match but failed to make their chances count, with an Adam Buckley header cleared off the line, a Lewis McNeill free-kick striking the wall, and Jimenez firing wide all coming within a minute of one another.
Despite the wee Hibees' pressure, United would continue to showcase their threat - as Brodie Lee went close with a leaping header on 27 minutes before Anderson saw his forceful effort pushed clear by Mallon five minutes later.
Downie would head wide and Cleland would be denied at close range by Zerebecki as the first half wound down, with the score somehow remaining 0-0 at the break depite a plethora of chances being crafted.
Callum MacDonald was introduced at the break in place of Cleland and nearly made an immediate impact within 50 seconds of his arrival on the park. The winger took down a deep cross from Gillie with his first touch and took aim with his second, with his deflected half-volley whizzing wide.
Emil Franczak thought he had put the hosts ahead on 57 minutes when his back-post finish looked certain to cross the goal-line, only for Gillie to hook away the danger.
As both sides relentlessly pushed for the winning goal, Franczak would shoot wide on 68 minutes as Buckley headed off-target up the other end two minutes later.
The deciding goal was found with 11 minutes of regular time to play, as Anderson precisely picked out the bottom-left corner with a low, driven strike from the edge of the box.
The final 10 minutes saw Hibs chase an equaliser to keep their 22-match unbeaten league streak alive, but limited chances unfolded in the closing stages and a first league defeat in 14 months was inflicted on the wee Hibees.
