‘Igor Tudor is not the right man for Tottenham’: Paul Robinson reveals who Spurs really need

0 7

Pressure is continuing to mount on Igor Tudor at Tottenham Hotspur, with former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson questioning whether the Croatian is the right man to lead Spurs after their latest Champions League defeat.

Igor Tudor’s struggles in the Tottenham Hotspur dugout have been laid bare for all to see since he took charge of Tottenham almost a month ago.

The Croatian has not only struggled to secure positive results after losing his first four games, but has also failed to give confidence to a group of Tottenham players who need it.

The 4-1 defeat in his opening game against Arsenal was a low moment for Spurs, though there was an excuse: it was his first match.

Three games later, results have only worsened, with Atletico Madrid beating Tottenham 5-2 in the first leg of their round-of-16 tie.

Igor Tudor criticised by Paul Robinson after Tottenham struggles

Spurs have it all to play for if they are to turn the tie around and book their spot in the quarter-finals, where one of Barcelona or Newcastle United awaits.

Whether Tudor will be the man to take charge of the return leg remains to be seen, but Paul Robinson has already seen enough.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, the former Tottenham and England goalkeeper questioned Tudor’s management and the impact he has had on the squad.

Paul Robinson said: “Igor Tudor is not the right man and is not in the right place.

“You need someone to put their arm around players and not criticise the players. You do not need the players turning against you. You need to get the best out of what is in front of you and Igor Tudor has not done that.”

He added, “This has been a disappointing night for Tottenham. The important thing was to have some kind of confident performance. They were devoid of confidence – it was awful. The only word you can use is disaster.”

Spurs scrutiny grows after Igor Tudor handling of Antonin Kinsky moment

Tudor’s man management was there for all to see on Tuesday night in his handling of Antonin Kinsky following the goalkeeper’s mistakes.

The Croatian substituted the young goalkeeper after just 16 minutes, a decision the boss later suggested was intended to put him out of his misery.

However, when Kinsky made his way off the pitch, the Spurs manager did not acknowledge him or put an arm around the visibly distraught goalkeeper.

Both Joe Hart and Steve McManaman have labelled Tudor’s reaction ruthless and cold.
