"Sirens": Man Utd eyeing deal for 24-year-old French star, club eager to keep him - report

0 0

Manchester United are one of the clubs interested in signing Juventus midfielder Khephren Thuram during the summer transfer window, according to Tuttosport.

The Frenchman signed for the Bianconeri from Nice for £17 million in the summer of 2024. He has already made 87 appearances for the club in all competitions.

Thuram still has three years left on his contract at the Turin giants, but this has not stopped the speculation linking him with a move to the Premier League.

United, Liverpool and Aston Villa are keeping tabs on the 24-year-old, but Juventus are focused on negotiating a new contract to ward off ‘sirens’ from abroad.

They have held initial talks with his agent Meïssa N’Diaye, and are prepared to guarantee a significant hike in Thuram’s net salary from £2.1m to £3.46m per year.

Thuram speculation could be agent-driven

Thuram was linked with a move to United after Sir Jim Ratcliffe bought into the club in February 2024. However, the Red Devils could not do business with Nice, where the midfielder was contracted.

UEFA restricted United from any transfer activity until September 2025 with Nice, who are also owned by Ratcliffe. It was a huge contributing factor and blocked Jean-Clair Todibo from joining United.

Thuram has now re-emerged as a transfer target. He is a defensive midfielder by trade and has had a good campaign in Serie A. He has won four duels and two tackles per game alongside four recoveries.

He has also been good with the ball at his feet, with a passing accuracy of 86 percent.

Still, we believe the speculation could be agent-driven. United and other Premier League clubs are being used as a negotiation tool to speed up and finalise a new contract for Thuram before the season ends.

United are more likely to focus on a defensive midfielder with English top-flight experience.

Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson could be a front-runner to replace Casemiro, who is set to leave on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the ongoing league season.
