How much every Tottenham player could earn per week if Spurs are relegated
Tottenham Hotspur’s fight for Premier League survival is not just about pride or status, but potentially about significant financial consequences for the club and its players should the worst happen.
Every passing gameweek in the Premier League brings more doubt over whether Tottenham Hotspur will stay up in the English top flight.
Spurs find themselves in 16th place on the Premier League table, four points off 18th-placed West Ham United with just ten games to go.
The Lilywhites have lost 13 league games already this season and have one of the worst home records in the division, with only Burnley and Wolves worse off.
Still, Spurs have been handed a five per cent chance of going down, while Premier League legends have predicted that Tottenham will just about stay up.
Tottenham player wages and potential relegation salary cuts should the club be relegated
Being in the Premier League comes with its financial perks for both the club and its players. Reports from last month claimed that Tottenham are set to lose millions, with one sponsor set to leave at the end of the season following their league underperformance.
It is also rumoured that Spurs could lose a whopping £250m in revenue if they were to go down this season.
The players are not shielded either, as Daniel Levy ensured that Tottenham players face wage cuts if they fail to preserve the club’s Premier League status.
It is claimed that most members of the Spurs first-team squad are on deals which include a mandatory salary reduction in case the club drop a division, and many would see their earnings slashed by half.
Here is how each player will be affected should Tottenham become a Championship side and cut wages by exactly 50%:
| Player | Current weekly wage | Weekly wage if halved |
|---|---|---|
| Xavi Simons | £195,000 | £97,500 |
| Cristian Romero | £195,000 | £97,500 |
| James Maddison | £170,000 | £85,000 |
| Conor Gallagher | £160,000 | unknown clause |

| Mohammed Kudus | £150,000 | £75,000 |
| Dominic Solanke | £140,000 | £70,000 |
| Joao Palhinha | £135,000 | £67,500 |
| Dejan Kulusevski | £110,000 | £55,000 |
| Richarlison | £90,000 | £45,000 |
| Micky van de Ven | £90,000 | £45,000 |
| Pedro Porro | £85,000 | £42,500 |

| Ben Davies | £80,000 | £40,000 |
| Guglielmo Vicario | £75,000 | £37,500 |
| Destiny Udogie | £75,000 | £37,500 |
| Archie Gray | £75,000 | £37,500 |
| Rodrigo Bentancur | £75,000 | £37,500 |
| Pape Matar Sarr | £70,000 | £35,000 |
| Kevin Danso | £65,000 | £32,500 |
| Lucas Bergvall | £60,000 | £30,000 |
| Yves Bissouma | £55,000 | £27,500 |
| Mathys Tel | £55,000 | £27,500 |
| Djed Spence | £40,000 | £20,000 |
| Wilson Odobert | £40,000 | £20,000 |
| Antonin Kinsky | £30,000 | £15,000 |
| Souza | £25,000 | unknown clause |
| Brandon Austin | £15,000 | £7,500 |
It remains unclear whether Conor Gallagher and Souza have wage clauses, as they were signed in the winter window after Daniel Levy’s departure.
Spurs wage bill impact if relegated to the Championship
With a 50 per cent reduction across the board, that would see Tottenham’s wage bill fall significantly.
At the moment, Tottenham currently spend £2,631,000 on weekly wages for members of their first-team squad in the Premier League. Should they go down, that would reduce to £1,315,500 per week.
Of course, that does not take into account the big-name players Tottenham would likely have to sell.
Annually, the club spends £136,812,000 on first-team wages and that would also be reduced should they become a Championship club, falling to £68,406,000.
