AHEAD OF THE GAME: Boston United (A)
Boston United vs Woking
Enterprise National League
Tuesday 3rd March
19:45 Kick-Off
The Cards are back in league action on Tuesday evening, as they travel to the Jakemans Community Stadium to take on 12th-placed Boston United.
With FA Trophy action last weekend, Woking’s last league clash was at Rochdale on February 21st, with a 3-0 loss against a strong Dale side who continue to compete for the league’s top spot.
Now attention turns to another lengthy away trip, as a Cards side with Craig Ross, Jake Hyde and Dale Gorman look to get March underway with a much-needed victory against the Pilgrims.
The reverse fixture, played on November 15th, saw the spoils shared at the Laithwaite Community Stadium, as Beautyman’s 33rd-minute goal was cancelled out in the 59th minute by Liam Waldock.
One who likes a goal in this fixture, Beautyman also netted the last time Boston hosted the Cards, on March 8th, 2025, with the points also shared on that occasion following a stoppage-time leveller from the Pilgrims.
The last time this fixture saw a winner, Woking were victors on home turf, with Ward’s 18-yard strike the difference in a 1-0 victory.
Opposition Watch
Currently seven games unbeaten in the league, Boston have enjoyed some recent results against some of the league’s promotion play-off hopefuls, including a 2-1 victory against Boreham Wood on January 31st, a 6-3 triumph over Scunthorpe on February 14th, and a 3-2 win against Forest Green on February 24th.
All three of these, however, were won on the road, with their record on home turf not as strong as their away run. Indeed, they have won just twice in their last ten league fixtures at the Jakemans Community Stadium, with six consecutive losses at the beginning of that period.
Stronger home results in recent clashes, however, has seen them claim eight points from their last four games, which, paired with their triumph over Forest Green last time out, will be a cause for confidence as they welcome Woking.
Moreover, the recent short-term signing of Liam McCarron, formerly of Leeds United and Northampton Town, adds to the Pilgrims’ attacking options, with the attacker making his debut at the New Lawn Stadium.
One to Watch
Another recent signing that adds to their attack is that of Tom Cursons, who has quickly become a favourite at the club, having scored six in as many appearances.
His maiden goal came as the winner in a 1-0 victory over Sutton on February 7th, while his fifth-minute strike against Gateshead in the following fixture also proved decisive in a 1-0 triumph.
Also indicative that he likes an early goal, he netted within seven minutes of the clash at Scunthorpe, with a further two second-half goals in the game seeing him earn his first hat-trick for the club.
His latest in his fast start to life at Boston was against Forest Green last time out, and he will certainly be looking to add to his portfolio on Tuesday evening.
