Poole Town 1-2 Gloucester City – Match Report

0 0

Poole Town faced a frustrating 2-1 defeat at home to Gloucester City on Saturday afternoon as they fail to climb the table into 2nd place.

As the first half kicked off Gloucester City made the more impressive start, keeping plenty of the ball in attacking areas. They came close to a goal in the first ten minutes with Ellis Watts cutting in dangerously, but his shot was blocked.

It only took the visitors 16 minutes to break the deadlock, scoring the first goal of the game. They won the ball deep in the Poole Town half leading to Rylie Siddle lobbing Adam Parkes from distance, which made it 1-0 to the away side.

Gloucester continued to push for a second goal with multiple attacks on the Poole Town backline. They were inches away from extending their lead in the 30th minute as they had a shot from close range, but keeper Adam Parkes produced a superb save to keep the Dolphins in the game.

Just minutes later, Gloucester created another chance as they sent a great cross in from the left hand side towards the back post, met with a strong header hitting the post and flashing across the face of goal.

A creative string of passes by the Dolphins showed what they can do. This led to a great chance for number 22, Antonio Diaz, whose low shot to the keeper’s right-hand side was saved by the Gloucester keeper, Jared Thompson.

As the first half ended, Poole Town won a free kick in the 44th minute taken by Shaquille Gwengwe in a dangerous position, but the Gloucester wall got in the way – ending the first half 1-0 to the visitors.

As the second half kicked off, Poole Town came out with slightly more aggression than the first half, hoping to make a fast start and get back into the game.

Poole were eventually rewarded and found their leveller with star striker Shaquille Gwengwe extending his league goal tally to 34 with a 56th minute equaliser, created by a superb low cross into the box from Salim Saied.

The drama continued in the battle for 2nd place as Gloucester scored immediately after kick off as they took the lead back in a matter of seconds, making it 2-1.

Poole Town, desperate for an equaliser, tried to turn it up a notch as Ayo attacked from the left with great footwork, finding a low cross into a good area, which was intercepted by Jamal Mohammed.

In the dying 20 minutes Poole Town made three big changes to try and shake up their attack, bringing on Ik Hill, Henry Spalding and Kris Campbell as they push for another equaliser.

Despite the Dolphins efforts in the second half, they failed to find the goal they needed, and Gloucester City left the Tatnam Stadium with all three points to claim that second place spot in the league table.

Poole will look to get back to winning ways as they take on Dorchester away from home at the Avenue Stadium on Saturday 7th of March.
