"Really good": Carrick now praises one Man Utd star for training attitude, could start vs Crystal Palace
Manchester United interim manager Michael Carrick has heaped praise on Benjamin Sesko ahead of the Premier League clash against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Sunday.
The Slovenian striker has been in fine form since the turn of the year. He has yet to start under Carrick, but has made significant goal contributions coming off the bench.
The 22-year-old scored a late winning goal against Fulham this month before bagging a dramatic equaliser at West Ham United. He netted another winner at Everton this week.
Unsurprisingly, the club’s faithful have voted him as the Player of the Month for February, but Carrick has continued to insist that there is no ‘selection headache’ for him.
He told MUTV: “It’s definitely not a headache, I’ll tell you that. The way he’s training, his attitude, he’s in really good spirits. It’s certainly not a headache, there’s a decision to be made but it’s not made difficult because the boys understand it and all play a part.”
“Sometimes it’s going to be one player, sometimes it might be someone else, but it’s the group that’s the most important thing and the boys have been fantastic with that.”
Sesko has contributed to United picking up five additional points in his last four appearances.
He has been the club’s in-form forward despite the lack of regular minutes in recent weeks. Carrick could finally unleash him in his starting line-up against the Eagles.
Amad Diallo has had multiple average outings this month. He was poor with his crossing in the draw at West Ham and lost possession regularly against the Toffees.
The Ivorian, who has been the regular on the right wing, could drop to the bench. This would obviously mean Bryan Mbeumo returning to the right side of United’s attack.
This should pave the way for Sesko to start upfront for the first time under Carrick. The former RB Leipzig man deserves it on the back of his impressive scoring form.
The Red Devils will aim to complete the league double over the Eagles, having previously won the reverse fixture 2-1. Mason Mount scored the winner at Selhurst Park.
