"He deserves it": Aaron Wan-Bissaka fancies 44yo to become permanent Man Utd manager
West Ham United star Aaron Wan-Bissaka has backed Michael Carrick to secure the permanent managerial role at Manchester United at the end of the season.
Carrick took charge as United’s interim manager last month and has since transformed the club’s fortunes. The Red Devils have picked up 16 points from their last six league matches.
As a result, they have cemented the fourth spot in the standings and hold a three-point advantage over Chelsea and Liverpool before Sunday’s encounter against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.
In an interview with The Daily Mail, Wan-Bissaka has now spoken fondly about Carrick from his previous tenure as the caretaker head coach.
The former United right-back said that United are in a good place with Carrick at the helm and believes he should be given the full-time role.
Wan-Bissaka told The Daily Mail: “He’s someone you can trust.
“He will also trust you back if you buy into him and what he’s looking to do. If you trust him, he will trust you.
“He was quite simple in what he wanted from you. The boys were happy with him and the games he had when he was the manager.
“With him back at the club now, they are in a good place as a team. I think he should be given the full-time role. I think he deserves it.”
Carrick has made a huge impression in his second spell as United’s interim manager. The 44-year-old has guided the club to statement wins over Manchester City and Arsenal.
The club have dropped just two points from the last six league games. They look in a strong position to qualify for next season’s Champions League compared to Chelsea and Liverpool.
United have only 11 league games to concentrate, while the Blues and Reds are alive in the FA Cup and Champions League, which will obviously add workload and divert attention.
The Red Devils host Palace next in the league on Sunday. Ahead of the game, Carrick could make a solitary change with Benjamin Sesko coming in for Amad Diallo in the final third.
Sesko has scored goals in three of his last four substitute appearances, securing five additional points for United. The Slovenian deserves to be rewarded with his maiden start under Carrick.
