Tottenham snubbed a £30m forward in January, now he has four goals in six games

0 3

Tottenham may regret turning down the chance to sign a 28-year-old who has been outstanding in La Liga since his January transfer.

Despite being in the middle of an injury crisis, Spurs only bought two players through the door in the winter transfer window: Conor Gallagher and Brazilian teenager Souza.

Tottenham fans were left frustrated by the club’s transfer business, and their inactivity has backfired, with the Lilywhites now in real danger of being relegated to the Championship.

It will anger Spurs fans to learn that the club had an opportunity to sign a forward who had been prolific in the Serie A for many years.

Tottenham turned down the opportunity to sign Ademola Lookman

The Sun have revealed that Spurs were given an opportunity to land Ademola Lookman from Atalanta amidst their injury crisis.

In fact, the report says that the Nigerian international was offered to Tottenham a number of times, both during last summer’s transfer window and during January.

However, the North Londoners repeatedly snubbed the opportunity, with the 28-year-old eventually completing a £30m deadline day move to Atletico Madrid.

Spurs may have a few regrets at turning down Lookman, who has made a blistering impact at the Spanish capital, with four goals in six matches for his new side.

Johan Lange explains reasoning behind Spurs’ January strategy

Johan Lange has explained that the calibre of players Tottenham wanted in January were not on the market, pointing out that it was a quiet window across Europe and the Premier League.

The Dane also pointed to squad constraints and the fact that Spurs are already having to leave players out of their Champions League squad, given their numbers.

However, given the crisis situation Tottenham are in, one suspects that many Spurs fans would have taken Lookman in January.
