Man Utd now interested in signing 25yo German star, £61m asking price for transfer
Manchester United are mentioned as potential candidates to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha during the summer transfer window, as per SportBild.
The Red Devils are expected to reinforce the defensive midfield department with the possibility of multiple exits. Casemiro will leave when his contract expires on June 30.
Manuel Ugarte could head for the exit door too. The Uruguayan has hardly got playing time as Casemiro’s deputy and could pursue a new challenge this summer.
Amidst this, United have been linked with Nmecha, who is ‘attracted’ to the Premier League. He has recently joined English agency ‘The Talent Table’ ahead of a potential move.
The Germany international was signed by Dortmund from Wolfsburg for £26m in 2023. The Bundesliga giants are set to demand at least £61m to part ways with the 25-year-old.
Nmecha speculation could be agent-driven
The former Manchester City graduate was linked with the Red Devils during last summer’s transfer window, but nothing materialised beyond the speculation.
The transfer links have been renewed ahead of another busy summer for the Mancunian giants, who are expected to prioritise signings in midfield and defence.
Nmecha has played as a central or defensive midfielder for Dortmund this term, making eight goal contributions from 35 appearances in all competitions.
The German has completed 86 per cent of his passes in the Bundesliga with an average of four duels won. He has also registered four recoveries and one tackle per outing.
In our view, his statistics are not overly impressive. The Red Devils may ideally want someone who is strong on the ball and can make more defensive contributions.
Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson comes to mind. He has completed 26 more passes per league game than Nmecha, with eight duels won, nine recoveries and three tackles.
United are more likely to pay a premium fee for the 23-year-old than to recruit Nmecha. The speculation on the latter could be more agent-driven than the club expressing an interest.
