Re: Compensation for delayed flight

I had a delay of effectively 36 hours caused by Aer Lingus in June. My connecting flight from Birmingham to Dublin for a Dublin to Philadelphia run was cancelled, so I called their helpline immediately to rebook myself onto a slightly later Brum flight that could still make my connection. Their system then overrode this and automatically rebooked me onto the earlier flight that morning, which by that point would have been impossible to make unless I was already at the airport. To make matters worse, I didn't realise this had happened until I turned up to the airport for the later flight.

It took a few weeks, but I was compensated and fully reimbursed for food expenses between Brum and Philly and for a hotel in Dublin necessitated by the new itinerary. They couldn't really object as I had them totally bang to rights, which I'm guessing you do too on this delay. I practically travelled for free once the compensation had come in.

Your case is slightly less extreme, but 6.5 hours is still a big delay. They should have processed it by now, unless they're dealing with a massive backlog for some reason. You should definitely look into what you can do to grease the wheels. I don't know what that would be, as their only UK address is for their subsidiary in Belfast that operates a very limited number of flights.

Usually airlines are fairly prompt on delay competition as there isn't a lot they can do to fight it (unless there was a sudden issue that was classified as outside their control). Where were you flying to and from?
