Manchester United U18s unstoppable as Oxford are blown away in FA Youth Cup clash
Manchester United U18s followed up their victory over Manchester City in the U18 Premier League with a won 4-1 win at Oxford United in the FA Youth Cup on Wednesday evening.
United raced into an early lead with Albert Mills rising highest to head Jim Thwaites’ corner home in the 12th minute.
Bendito Mantato nearly doubled United’s lead in the 37th minute, racing in behind to receive a pass from JJ Gabriel, but was denied by the woodwork.
The woodwork could not deny Gabriel from making it 2-0 on the stroke of half-time as the forward rifled an unstoppable shot into the bottom corner.
Five minutes after the restart, Nathaniel-Junior slipped Chido Obi through, and the forward finished from close range to make it 3-0.
Oxford threatened to pull one back through Mo Missanga, but the winger hit his effort straight at Cameron Bryne-Hughes in the United goal.
Shortly after, Missanga drove into the box before pulling the ball back to the unmarked Josh Holton, who slotted into the bottom corner to make it 3-1.
Noah Ajayi completed the scoring in stoppage time, taking advantage of the U’s poor defending to hammer the ball past Harry Jones.
United will now face either Sunderland or Brighton and Hove Albion at home in the quarter-final on March 14.
It is a quick turnaround for Darren Fletcher’s side, who are back in action on Saturday, facing Wolverhampton Wanderers in the league.
