Red Sox Insider Names Three IL Candidates As Spring Training Approaches
The Boston Red Sox had a busy offseason, bringing in the likes of Ranger Suarez, Sonny Gray and Willson Contreras.
One of the biggest additions who wasn’t available to the team during the 2025 playoffs will be outfielder Roman Anthony, as he returns from his oblique injury.
Boston also has some key players nursing injuries as Spring Training approaches, including first baseman Triston Casas, infielder Romy Gonzalez and pitcher Kutter Crawford.
Peter Abraham of The Boston Globe named the trio as candidates for the injured list.
“* Casas, Gonzalez (shoulder) and Crawford (fell behind because of the flu) are IL candidates. Gonzalez has been limited,” the longtime Red Sox reporter posted on Bluesky Monday afternoon.
Casas suffered a season-ending torn left patellar tendon on May 2 and is still rehabbing.
It was reported on Feb. 9 that Gonzalez was dealing with a nagging shoulder injury and manager Alex Cora said Monday that the 29-year-old is currently shut down from baseball activities.
Crawford, meanwhile, said in January that he was fully healthy, but acknowledged on Sunday that his status for Opening Day was uncertain.
