Tottenham confirm appointment of Igor Tudor as interim head coach
Tottenham Hotspur have now brought an end to their managerial search – confirming the appointment of Igor Tudor on an interim basis.
The focus for Tottenham Hotspur in the last few days has been on landing a head coach following the sacking of Thomas Frank on Wednesday afternoon.
The Dane’s spell in the Spurs dugout lasted just eight months. Frank struggled to improve results on the pitch, leaving Tottenham with two wins in their last 17 outings and 16th in the Premier League table.
Following the dismissal of the former Brentford manager, there had been loads of speculation regarding who would take the reins in the Tottenham dugout.
Edin Terzic and Marco Rose were linked with the managerial job at Spurs, while former managers Tim Sherwood and Harry Redknapp openly put themselves in the mix for the job.
Igor Tudor replaces Thomas Frank
Tottenham’s search for a Thomas Frank replacement is now over, with the Lilywhites confirming the appointment of former Juventus boss Igor Tudor.
The Croatian has a long history as a manager in Europe, having spent spells in the managerial dugout for sides like Juventus, Marseille, Lazio, Udinese, Galatasaray and Hajduk Split.
He has also served as an assistant manager for the Croatian national team. His contract at Tottenham is a short-term one that expires in the summer, with his appointment on an interim basis.
A statement on the official Spurs site read: “We are pleased to confirm the appointment of Igor Tudor as Men’s Head Coach until the end of the season, subject to work permit.
“Igor joins us with a clear focus: to improve performances, deliver results and move us up the Premier League table. His mandate is straightforward – bring organisation, intensity and competitive edge to the squad at a decisive stage of the campaign.”
Igor Tudor faces an immediate Tottenham test
The new Spurs boss will now meet with the Tottenham squad for training on Monday, although that will take some time, given they were handed five days off following Frank’s sacking.
However, there is no time for getting used to one another, as Tudor has been thrown straight into the hot seat, with Tottenham in a relegation scrap and in desperate need of wins.
His first match in charge is a big one, with the north London derby up next for Tottenham on 22 February at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where Spurs will be hoping to put a dent in Arsenal’s title aspirations.
